Brentford lay groundwork to appointing Keith Andrews ‘successor’ after confirmed news

Brentford need to plan who might be the next manager of the club when Keith Andrews departs in the future.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Andrews signed a new contract at Brentford until 2032.

Andrews succeeded Thomas Frank as Brentford boss this season, after working with the Dane as the club’s set-piece coach.

Brentford are currently seventh in the Premier League table under Andrews, and a strong end to the season could see them qualify for Europe for the first time in their history.

Brentford need to find Keith Andrews successor

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has praised Brentford chief executive Jon Varney for his running of the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that Brentford need to “look over their shoulders as to what’s coming next.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Look, it’s a happy story at the moment. They’re the new stadium. They haven’t had the new stadium curse as people talk about. They performed well there.

“And as I’ve always said, Jon Varney, the CEO, is one of the best in the game, and I’m really pleased for Brentford overall. So good old Keith Andrews, good for you mate.

“And I hope that you’re now thinking of a succession plan as to who will be your successor in years to come. And that’s what Brentford and clubs like that have got to do now, is focus on those sorts of things.

“While they’re riding the wave of success, they’ve got to be looking over their shoulders as to what’s coming next. And I’m sure Matthew Benham and the board will be doing that right now.”

Brentford well-placed to increase revenue

Sources have told Football Insider that Brentford could agree new commercial deals after new hires on the club’s board.

Blackstone executive Prakash Melwani and Sir Lucian Grainge, who is chairman of Universal Music Group (UMG), have joined the board of Brentford’s holding company, Best Intentions Analytics.

The move could open up new avenues for the club to increase revenue, with Brentford’s latest financial accounts recording turnover to be at a record high £173million.
