Sources: Huddersfield Town lead race to sign Brentford’s Ethan Brierley
Huddersfield Town are leading the race to sign Brentford youngster Ethan Brierley, sources have told Football Insider.
The Terriers are at the front of the queue for the 22-year-old midfielder, who has one year left on his contract.
Brierley impressed while on loan at Exeter City in the 2025-26 campaign, and made 42 appearances in League One, as the club fell into the fourth tier.
A number of EFL clubs have shown interest in the Brentford player, but Huddersfield are currently the most likely to secure his signature.
The midfielder originally came from Rochdale’s academy before he made the move to the Bees in 2023.
Huddersfield are aiming to add to their squad this summer as they look to mount a promotion challenge in League One for the 2026-27 campaign.
How good is Ethan Brierley?
Despite Exeter’s relegation to League Two last season, Brierley was one of the standout performers in the team.
The midfielder scored once and picked up three assists in the third tier, and proved himself to be an astute passer of the ball.
According to Fotmob on 26 June, he averaged 0.08 assists, a 0.12 xA, 3.93 accurate long balls, 1.60 chances created and 1.63 accurate crosses per game.
As a result, if Brierley is surrounded by better players, there is every chance that he could thrive and go on to be a bigger star in League One.
This has no doubt helped attract the attention of Huddersfield, who will be aiming to at least reach the playoffs this season.
However, it remains to be seen if they are able to get the deal over the line, given the current interest in the midfielder.
Who else are Huddersfield tracking this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Huddersfield have set their sights on Sunderland goalkeeper Matty Young this summer.
The Terriers are aiming to bring the 19-year-old in on loan after having a successful loan spell at Salford City last season.
Huddersfield are aiming to beat a number of EFL clubs to his signature this summer.
Young kept 15 clean sheets in League Two for Salford last season as they reached the playoff final before being defeated by Notts County.
