‘Brilliant’ Everton claim as club to benefit from boost ‘you can’t buy’ – pundit

Everton have the confidence to avoid relegation after their late goal against Leicester on Wednesday.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about this season’s relegation battle.

Richarlison bagged a last-gasp equaliser to draw 1-1 with Leicester on Wednesday (20 April).

The result left Everton one point off the relegation zone with a game in hand on 18th-placed Burnley.

McAvennie is backing the Toffees to beat the drop thanks to the confidence they will have gained from that late equaliser.

“Everton are a great club but it’s getting to crunch time,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“These are the games where you just have to win, no excuses. I know they got a late goal against Leicester the other day.

“You wonder how much confidence that will give them, you can’t buy that. It feels like a win when that happens.

“It has to be said, they will need that confidence because they have some really hard games coming up.

“Burnley’s fixtures are a bit easier but Everton have that game in hand which keeps the pressure on Burnley.

“I’ve seen enough from them to make me think they will stay up. Which is brilliant because Everton should not be in the Championship.”

Everton are next in action against Liverpool on Sunday (24 April).

The Blues won at Anfield last season against an injury-striken Liverpool side.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed a group ‘loathed’ by fans can help the Toffees close ‘£100million’ gap on the elite.
