Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday postponement latest as Met Office issues new weather warning

Bristol City are set to host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as they look to return to winning ways.

It has been a difficult few weeks for the Robins, with star man Anis Mehmeti linked away from Ashton Gate.

On top of this, they are on a three-match winless run in the Championship, which has seen them drop to 11th in the table, three points off the playoffs, damaging Bristol City’s promotion hopes.

However, with struggling Sheffield Wednesday next up, Gerhard Struber will be looking to pile on the misery.

Yet, there is a chance that the fixture could face significant interruptions due to a recent weather warning that has now emerged.

Issues with the weather have caused complications for multiple EFL fixtures this season, with some even being cancelled.

Now, the Met Office on 22 January issued a weather warning for South West England due to expected periods of heavy wind and rain.

The warning suggests that there could be delays to road and rail travel, with some bus and train journeys expected to take longer.

On top of this, coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray as well as large waves.

However, the website also clarifies that Bristol will not be directly hit by this, with the wind and rain stopping at Weston-super-Mare in England and Newport in Wales.

The poor weather should only last between 2am on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

Therefore, with the warning also only being a yellow one, the game should go ahead without any issues.

Bristol City’s record vs Sheffield Wednesday explained

In recent years, the Robins have regularly overcome the Owls when the two sides have faced each other.

Bristol City have only lost one of their last seven fixtures against Sheffield Wednesday dating back to 2020.

In the reverse tie, the Robins beat the Owls with ease, with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Hillsborough.

However, overall, Sheffield Wednesday have usually got the better of Bristol City, winning 31 of the ties, compared to the Robins’ 20.

Nevertheless, Struber will be expected to pick up a simple victory on the weekend given the Owls’ terrible campaign to date, with relegation pretty much a guarantee.
