‘Why would you want to go?’ – Exclusive: Bruce reacts as Leeds star drops major reveal

Alex Bruce has backed Kalvin Phillips to remain at Leeds United for a long time after spotting his unique connection with supporters immediately after matches.

The former Leeds and Republic of Ireland centre-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, questioned why the 24-year-old would want to play anywhere else after emerging as a star at his boyhood club.

Speaking in the latest issue of FourFourTwo, Phillips said: “I want to spend my career at Leeds and see the club doing well in the Premier League. I’m just enjoying every minute right now.”

Bruce says the passion Phillips holds for Leeds United is clear to see and says he would stay at Elland Road for as long as possible if he was in the midfielder’s shoes.

Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s clearly passionate about the club, you can see that the way he marches around the pitch at the end of games.

“He’s got a good relationship with the supporters, he’s a Leeds lad and if you’re a Leeds lad playing in the Premier League, why would you want to go anywhere else?

“Obviously, it’s a great club, huge support and a fantastic history so if I was Kalvin Phillips and I was Leeds lad, if I was doing well and I had the kind of rapport he’s got with the supporters, why would you want to go anywhere else?”

Phillips has 175 appearances under his belt for Leeds after coming through the youth ranks in Yorkshire.

This season has seen him play 34 times, injury and suspension meaning he has started all but six Championship fixtures.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the players have been given a proposed return date by Bielsa.
