Bruce ready to listen to offers for international Aston Villa attacker – report

By Harvey Byrne

Manager Steve Bruce is ready to listen to offers for attacker Ross McCormack this summer, according to a report.

The Mirror have detailed in their transfer blog (Sunday) that the Midlands giants are ready to part ways with the 30-year-old forward after he was omitted from the club’s pre-season trip to Germany.

It is detailed that Sunderland are keen on the 13-time capped Scotland international who made the switch to Villa Park just last summer in a mega £12million deal.

The experienced forward had a troubled debut campaign at Villa Park and spent the second half the last campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he also failed to make an impact.

McCormack, who has three years remaining on his contract played just 22 times for the club, returning three goals in all competitions following his mega-money deal but the report also states that it is not known if Villa will demand a fee or allow him to leave on loan again this summer.

Football Insider verdict:

For whatever reason the past year has been a massive struggle for McCormack after a fine 2015-16 campaign which saw him bag 23 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for Fulham. It was felt that Aston Villa may have given him a second chance this summer to showcase what he can do and to try and recapture that form as they themselves plan to make a bid for promotion. However, after being omitted from the club’s pre-season tour it is clear that the Scotsman’s future lies elsewhere. It is also unlikely that Villa themselves will be able to recoup any of the initial money they spent on McCormack meaning they should look to offload him permanently sooner rather than later before his value plummets further.
