Bruno Alves makes honest admission about playing in front of Rangers fans

Rangers defender Bruno Alves has admitted the team need to learn to cope with the pressure of playing in front of their own supporters.

The Light Blues have now dropped 16 points at home so far this season, after the 3-1 defeat by St Johnstone at Ibrox on Saturday and have now lost against Hibernian, Celtic, Hamilton and St Johnstone.

The 35-year-old admitted that his teammates have struggled to handle the pressure when things get tough and that they need to learn to keep their composure.

“Losing at home is very difficult to accept, but it is important also to move on and not think that everything is wrong when we lose but keep believing we are doing things the right way,” Alves told the club’s official website.

“Even sometimes when we are not having the result that we want, we need to keep playing and have patience.

“It is normal to have pressure when you are playing in a big team, but you need to handle that type of pressure better, and manage the situation better.

“We need to play, have the patience and try to find the right solution on the pitch, and try to move the ball faster.”

Alves has made 15 appearances for Rangers in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.

Before the defeat to St Johnstone, Rangers had won four consecutive matches under their interim manager Graeme Murty, who has been in caretaker charge since Pedro Caixinha was sacked in October.

Gers are now third in the Scottish Premiership table, eight points behind leaders Celtic and three behind second-placed Aberdeen after 19 matches.

The Light Blues will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Kilmarnock on Saturday in their final game before Christmas, before their next home match against Motherwell on December 27.

The team will be desperate to pick up points with an Old Firm showdown with rivals Celtic fast approaching on December 30.
