‘Bruno Fernandes and the truth about £700k a week offer to leave Man United’

Bruno Fernandes could be leaving Manchester United this summer, with the midfielder set to earn a huge wage if his departure is confirmed.

The Portugal international was part of a Red Devils side that suffered their worst ever Premier League finish last season, coming 15th with just 42 points.

It could have been even bleaker for Ruben Amorim’s side as well, who would’ve been battling relegation without the 30-year-old’s input of eight goals and 10 assists.

If Man United do sell Fernandes, it would mark the beginning of a huge shake-up at Old Trafford, as the 20-time top-flight champions look to return to their former glory.

Truth about Fernandes’ contract

Earlier this month, Football Insider reported that Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are expected to make an £80million bid for Fernandes.

It has been suggested that the Portuguese international could be paid an estimated £700,000 per week if he were to make the switch to the Middle East.

Live on talkSPORT (1 June), Saudi football expert Ben Jacobs was asked whether the extortionate wages quoted in the media are amplified, he replied: “The short answer is, it’s not exaggerated but it is spun.

“When you move to Saudi you get your base wage, but on top of that, you get cars, all your accommodation paid for, and then some stranger bonuses that are negotiated away from football. That could be an unusually high figure for image rights, or a figure to post something on social media.”

Jacobs added that although Fernandes‘ base wage would be around £700k per week if he made the move, but as all his accommodation costs get covered and he would receive a number of non-football related payments, the actual figure could be double that.

Man United aim for rebuild

Football Insider Verdict

Regardless of whether Fernandes departs this summer, Amorim’s side are set for a busy summer in the transfer window.

It was confirmed on Sunday (1 June) that Matheus Cunha has joined Man United from Wolves, after the Red Devils triggered a £62.5million release clause in the Brazilian’s contract.

The forward scored 15 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season, as well as picking up six assists for Vitor Pereira’s side.

Man United are also interested in Bryan Mbeumo, who was the fourth-top scorer in the league with 20 goals, although the Brentford winger is also liked by Newcastle.

The Magpies may have the upper hand in negotiations after they clinched fifth place on the final day of the campaign, meaning they secured Champions League football.
