Bruno Fernandes cited as Man United told to complete ‘brilliant’ West Ham signing – pundit
Declan Rice would be a “great signing” for Man United this summer and could form a lethal partnership with Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said Rice would be a “great fit” at United alongside Bruno Fernandes but is worried the Glazers won’t be willing to spend big to sign him.
The 24-year-old’s current contract at the London Stadium runs until 2024 and includes the option of a further year but the midfielder has repeatedly made clear his ambitions to move on from the club.
The England international has already rejected multiple attempts by David Moyes’ side to tie him down to a new long-term deal and the likelihood that he will quit in the summer is growing.
On 26 March, Football Insider revealed that United are unlikely to win the race for Rice whose priority is to remain in London, with Arsenal leading the fight for his signature.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been hopeful of convincing the midfielder of a move to Manchester this summer but it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Rice is willing to move away from London.
But McAvennie claimed that’s not the only reason Rice won’t join United.
“There is talk about Rice going there but will they spend that money with the Glazers? I do not know,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he would be a brilliant fit there, sitting with Fernandes.

“Man United need to stop the rot because when they get beat they are getting beat big time.
“There will be new players come the summer, Man United are going to step up next year.“
