Bruno Fernandes mocks Man United ace Lisandro Martinez over Rangers drama
Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has responded to his teammate’s “important” social media post after their win against Rangers.
The Argentinean centre-back played the whole match in United’s 2-1 win over Rangers (23 January) in the Europa League, assisting Fernandes’ match-winner.
Rangers were the masters of their own downfall in the 52nd minute as Jack Butland, under little pressure, punched a Christian Erikson corner into his own net to give United the lead.
In the 88th minute it looked like the ‘Gers had stolen a point, substitute Cyriel Dessers connected to a pin-point James Tavernier cross to equalise for the Scottish side.
However, in the 92nd minute, Martinez found Fernandes in the box, and the Portuguese midfielder scored a dramatic winner with a ferocious strike past Butland.
In praising the centre-back’s deep cross to the back post the captain has now mocked Martinez for never producing the right quality previously.
Man United stunned Rangers after Cyriel Dessers strike
The win against Rangers was desperately needed for manager Ruben Amorim, as the Portuguese boss has come under pressure after recent results.
A 3-1 loss against Brighton saw his team drop to 13th in the Premier League, and Amorim made headlines for his comments about his side being “the worst in Man United history,” which had fans concerned he had lost the dressing room.
Despite a Harry Maguire “howler” which allowed Rangers back into the game, Amorim will have been especially pleased at the reaction of his players as they went and found a late winner.
Martinez posted a message on his Instagram after the game, saying: “Three important points, now focused on Sunday!” to which Fernandes hilariously responded: “Por fin un buen pase,” which translates to: “Finally a good pass.”
The result puts United in position to qualify in the top 8 of the Europa League, and their final game before the knockouts will be against Romanian side FCSB on 30 January
