Bruno Fernandes: O’Rourke updates on ‘surprise’ Man United move

Man United star Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to seal a “surprise” move away from Old Trafford this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Fernandes, 29, has been widely linked with Bayern Munich in recent days – but sources say it would be a shock if their interest is genuine due to his age.

It is believed the United captain wants to stay and sign a new deal – and is keen for the club’s new ownership to match his ambition.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are ready to overhaul the squad and cement the club’s place in the Premier League’s top four next season.

It is believed club chiefs see Fernandes as a key part of that vision and are therefore not open to offers for the Portugal international this summer.

The 29-year-old made 48 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, starting in 47 of those outings.

He notched 15 goals and 13 assists in those outings and helped United win the FA Cup against rivals Man City at Wembley last month.

Fernandes joined Man United from Sporting CP in January 2020 for a reported fee of around £47million.

He penned his last contract extension in 2022, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2026 – with an option for a further year.

In other news, United told to pay another £30million to complete defender deal.
