Bruno Fernandes sends message to PSG’s Nuno Mendes with Man United departure looming

Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United future is in serious doubt, and the midfielder has taken to social media to send a message to his international teammate Nuno Mendes.

Mendes played 78 minutes as PSG demolished Inter Milan in the Champions League final, winning 5-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring for the French side, before a brace from 19-year-old Desire Doue gave Luis Enrique’s side a three-goal lead.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added another before substitute Senny Mayulu rounded off the scoring, as PSG collected their first ever Champions League trophy.

Fernandes responds to Mendes

After PSG’s Champions League triumph, full-back Mendes posted a photo of himself lifting the trophy, with the caption: “Champion my brother.”

Portugal teammate Fernandes responded in the comments, saying: “You deserve the world, little one.”

Fernandes’ future at Man United has been called into question over the last few days, with the 30-year-old linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The midfielder was instrumental for Ruben Amorim’s side last season, and without him, the Red Devils would have been in an even worse state than they already are.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Saudi side Al Hilal are preparing a bid for Fernandes, with the figure expected to be around the £80million mark.

Amorim should build around Fernandes

Football Insider Verdict

Fernandes was far and away United’s best player last season, and without the midfielder’s contributions, Amorim’s side would’ve found themselves in a genuine relegation battle.

The reason the sale of the Portugal international is even being considered is that, not only would it raise much-needed funds, but it would also mark the beginning of a complete rebuild at Old Trafford.

As bizarre as getting rid of your most valuable player sounds, the logic is that if the slate is completely wiped clean, Amorim can take United into next season with renewed energy and fresh belief.

However, in practice, a Man United team without Fernandes will simply not be as good as a Red Devils side that includes their current captain.

Amorim is far better off bringing in players to help and support the midfielder, rather than spending money and resources on replacing him.
