Bruno Fernandes sends six-word message to Man United fans after surprise twist

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has taken to social media to celebrate their against-the-odds FA Cup win over Arsenal on Sunday (January 12).

The 30-year-old was a central figure as United pulled off a surprise win at the home of one of the Premier League title contenders despite playing for an hour with 10 men.

He opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a lovely curling effort from an impressive Alejandro Garnacho run.

Man United were reduced to ten men shortly after, with Diogo Dalot picking up a second yellow card and subsequently given his marching orders due to a rash challenge on Mikel Merino.

Gabriel restored parity just two minutes after Dalot’s red card, scoring on the half-volley after both Altay Bayindir and Kobbie Mainoo failed to deal with Gabriel Martinelli’s cross.

Arsenal had the opportunity to go ahead from the penalty spot after Harry Maguire brought down Kai Havertz, but Martin Odegaard’s tame effort could not beat Bayindir.

After full-time, the score remained 1-1. Extra time came and went, and the game went to penalties, ending 3-5 to Man United, with Kai Havertz missing the only spot-kick.

Fernandes has been a key player for United despite their dismal first half of the season, starting 28 of the 29 games across all competitions, scoring seven goals, and providing 11 assists in his 2428 minutes of action.

The attacking midfielder took to Instagram after the game to celebrate, saying: “Great battle and effort from everyone.”

Ruben Amorim’s attention will return to the Premier League on Thursday (January 16) as they seek to end their four-game winless streak against Southampton.

United are currently sat in 13th going into the game with Southampton, with 23 points from their 20 league games.
