Bruno Guimaraes and Yoane Wissa react to Joelinton announcement at Newcastle

Joelinton and another of his teammates have caught the attention of Newcastle United stars at St James’ Park.

Despite Joelinton throwing himself about, most recently against Man City and Nico O’Reilly, the Brazilian has become an important star under Eddie Howe, ever since his transition from striker to midfield.

The Magpies will be hoping to create a winning run across competitions after Howe’s side beat PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, with Aston Villa up next on Sunday, 25 January.

Although the transfer window is currently open, very little business has been done by the Magpies, with Howe complaining about PSR restrictions.

Instead, however, the club are keen to celebrate their own players, with two players hitting an incredible milestone in the top tier of English football in recent weeks.

Premier League milestones for Joelinton and Newcastle teammate

Taking to Instagram (24 January), the official club account wrote: “Congrats on your Premier League milestone achievements, lads,” with a clapping emoji.

Both Joelinton and Jacob Murphy reached 200 Premier League appearances, and most of the latter’s have come with the Magpies, despite several loan spells before staying at St James’ Park in 2020.

In response to the news, Bruno Guimaraes and Yoane Wissa liked the post, celebrating their accomplished teammates, though Joelinton is the only one out of the two likely to feature against Villa this weekend.

Murphy only lasted 44 minutes against Man City, with the winger added to an ever-growing injury list in the North East, but Unai Emery‘s issues are also apparent at Villa Park.

Newcastle can match a club record vs Aston Villa

Howe will need as many stars at his disposal against the Villans, and if he does, his team could match a stunning record at St James’ Park for the first time since the 1931-32 campaign.

Newcastle have scored two goals in eight consecutive home games, and should they make it nine, they will match a 94-year record in front of a bumper crowd.

Emery and his players will have something to say about that happening, with Villa only conceding two goals in one of their last eight games across all competitions.

Murphy being sidelined will be a huge blow, but with Anthony Gordon returning to form recently and Harvey Barnes unstoppable on the opposite flank, there is plenty of danger in the squad.
