Bruno Guimaraes’ head may have been turned after Newcastle United source’s club-record reveal – pundit
Alan Hutton has insisted Newcastle United must do “whatever it takes” to tie Bruno Guimaraes down to a new and improved contract.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the midfielder’s head may be “getting slightly turned” by rival interest after impressing at St James’ Park.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (31 October), Newcastle are confident of agreeing a new £200,000-a-week deal that would run until the summer of 2028.

It would make Guimaraes, 25, the best-paid player in the club’s history.
Kieran Trippier, who is on around £145,000 a week, is currently the highest earner on Tyneside.
Hutton insisted handing the midfielder a new contract would be money well spent for Newcastle.
Asked if he thought it was worth tying the Brazilian down to a lucrative deal, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah. Of course.
“He’s come in and he’s been a breath of fresh air. This is what Newcastle need, this is what they’re trying to be: a top team that’s going to compete.
“There’s no point in unearthing these gems, spending money, bringing them into the football club, giving them a platform to play and then, when they hit those heights you knew they would, selling them on.
“They want to be that club that’s bringing these guys in. Whatever it takes, if his head’s slightly getting turned, give him a new deal. He knows what they’re trying to achieve at Newcastle and they’ll want to keep him, for sure.”

Guimaraes‘ current deal, signed when he joined from Olympique Lyonnais in January, runs until 2026.
He is currently on international duty with Brazil at the World Cup.
