Bruno Guimaraes: Newcastle tipped to beat Arsenal and Tottenham to even more signings after deal agreed – Agbonlahor

Newcastle United will be able to beat the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to even more signings in the summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Newcastle completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes on Sunday (30 January).

Guimaraes posted a video on Twitter the same day that referenced Arsenal’s interest in him.

Instead, the Brazilian has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Newcastle after they paid Lyon a £33million fee.

“Newcastle have shown during the window they have the financial power to sign players and that is only going to get stronger in the summer,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They will be building a team that might challenge for Europe next season.

“If you look at the teams bottom of the Premier League, if those new players can go in and perform then Newcastle have more of a chance than Watford, Norwich and Burnley of staying up.

“For me, I think they will stay up and when they do the clubs chasing the top-four and the top-six should be worried.

“The best signings they have done are Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Keiran Trippier. That’s three players who have Premier League experience, they know about the battles.

“But you look at the Bruno Guimaraes, Arsenal were interested in him and probably couldn’t match the wages Newcastle paid.

“Newcastle will be able to pay more wages than Arsenal and this is why some of these players will choose Newcastle over a bigger club like Arsenal.

“This is the problem clubs like Arsenal and Spurs will have buying players in the summer.”
