Bryan Gil: John Wenham tells Tottenham fans to back Conte after ‘controversial’ deal sanctioned

Tottenham fans need to trust Antonio Conte after he sanctioned Bryan Gil’s loan move to Valencia.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Gil, 20, joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season on Monday (31 January).

He has made 20 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Sevilla last summer (2021) for a fee Sky Italy reported was £21.6m.

Wenham has backed Conte’s decision to send Gil back to Spain despite having reservations about the possible move earlier this month.

“I said a while ago that if Gil was to go on loan I wanted him to stay in England,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t see how a move back to Spain benefits him, we know he can perform over there.

“I don’t think I’m the only one who thought that, so it could be seen as a controversial move.

“But if Conte has sanctioned that move he wants Dejan Kulusevski more, I have to back him.

“The fans and the club need to back these decisions from Conte. He’s a top-five manager in the world.

“The squad need to be rebuilt and that looks like it is happening. Gil is possibly a player for the future.

“The best thing for him might be to go and get some confidence over in Spain before coming back next season and challenging.

Gil is yet to start a Premier League game for Tottenham.

He has only completed a full game for the club on four occasions.
