Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney react as Igor Thiago’s Brentford future takes new twist
Igor Thiago has caused problems for teams up and down the Premier League, and the Brentford star is rightly being rewarded for that form.
Despite an injury-plagued first season in England, the 24-year-old has notched 17 league goals in 2025-26, with only Man City’s Erling Haaland able to boast more so far this term.
While he failed to hit the back of the net on Thursday, 12 February, he played a key role as Brentford drew 1-1 with Arsenal at the Gtech Community Stadium, throwing his weight about in the final third.
Keith Andrews has worked wonders with the entire forward line, with Dango Ouattara causing many problems for Gabriel Magalhaes during their clash with the Gunners.
But it is Thiago who has truly stolen the show, just months after being linked with a move to Newcastle United, and he’s reaping the rewards as Brentford‘s main man.
Igor Thiago pens new terms at Brentford
Taking to Instagram (13 February), the Bees announced their star striker’s contract extension quite simply, adding the caption, “IT9 x 2031,” to an image of the 24-year-old.
Thiago, who has also been named Premier League Player of the Month for January, has notched 18 goals and an assist since recovering from a season-defining injury in his first term in England.
The news has created a lot of traction online, with former players Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney both liking the social media post, while Pontus Jansson replied with two heart emojis.
His original deal was set to run until the summer of 2029, but with new terms penned at the Gtech, the Bees can expect to see him hitting the back of the net for two years after that.

Thiago wins yet another award at the Gtech
Thiago has beaten the likes of Harry Wilson, Enzo Fernandez and Florian Wirtz to win the January Premier League Player of the Month, showing just how integral he has been to Andrews’ plans.
During the month, he netted a total of five goals, coming in the form of a hat-trick against Everton and a brace against Sunderland, helping the Bees to seventh in the table now.
Despite dropping points against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, blanking in both of these games, his impact in the final third cannot be underestimated, even by the top clubs in the division.
While it seems unlikely that he will be able to catch up to Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot, it has been an incredible first full season in England for the talented striker.
