BT Sport pundit tears into Rangers senior man after Celtic defeat
By Harvey Byrne
BT Sport pundit and former Scotland international Michael Stewart has torn into Rangers chairman Dave King after Saturday’s humiliation against Celtic.
The Gers hosted the Hoops at Ibrox over the weekend with hopes that they could try and bring an end to Brendan Rodgers’ unbeaten domestic run.
However, goals from Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig eased Celtic to victory with Kenny Miller scoring a late consolation in the 5-1 defeat.
Manager Pedro Caixinha took the blame for the hammering, but Stewart believes there are “much bigger issues” such as King and has labelled him “Mr. Invisible.”
“He’s a man in the firing line after Saturday’s dismal defeat to Celtic but he only has a small part to play in the grand scheme of things,” wrote Stewart in his column for the Scottish Sun.
“There are much bigger issues.
“For starters, where is Mr Invisible, Dave King?
“There are serious questions that need to be answered but, as usual, he’s nowhere to be seen.
“Remember the talk about spending his children’s inheritance on Rangers?
“That’s been shown to be empty rhetoric.
“Those sound-bites are the easy bit. What Rangers need is substance.”
King has been a part of Rangers for a number of years now and he took over as non-executive chairman in March 2015.
He backed former manager Mark Warburton in the summer by allowing him to bring in 11 senior players.
However, many believed the additions were not good enough for the Gers and much of the players brought in were for little money from the English football leagues.
Supporters will now be eager for a much better window this time around and will be hoping Caixinha receives the full backing from the board to allow the club to compete with Celtic.
In other Rangers news, Trevor Steven has responded to how many players Caixinha would want to keep at the club for next season.
