Bukayo Saka: Phil Foden cited in ‘phenomenal’ Man City claim – expert
Noel Whelan has hailed “exceptional talent” Phil Foden and claimed the Man City midfielder’s promise is matched only by Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the “phenomenal” England pair could play “anywhere in the world”.
Foden, 21, netted Man City’s third goal in emphatic fashion after coming off the bench as the Citizens beat Southampton 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
The City academy product has notched 11 goals and eight assists in 33 games this term.
Whelan insisted Foden is a “complete player” and claimed he will be “flying the flag for England” alongside Saka for years to come.
“He’s such an exceptional talent,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s got everything you could possibly want – the talent, the drive, and he’s got that bite about him as well which I really love.
“When he’s on the ball he thinks so quickly and he thinks ahead. He always wants to try and hurt a team, and we saw the prime example of that against Southampton.
“He’s the complete player at such a young age, which is a really scary thought. He’s up there with Bukayo Saka – they’re going to be flying the flag for England and the main men at their clubs for years and years to come.
“Their ability, attitude, and character at such a young age is phenomenal. They’ve both got such experienced, older heads on young shoulders – it’s amazing. They could go anywhere in the world.”

Foden and Saka will be in action for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions in friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast this month.
Man City will play Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final on 16 April.
