Burnley backed to ‘take Callum Wilson tomorrow’ after West Ham termination news

Callum Wilson looks set to leave West Ham this month and Burnley are the latest club to be linked with a move for the former England striker.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 33-year-old could do a good job at Turf Moor in their battle against relegation.

Burnley are currently sat 19th in the Premier League table, with eight points separating them from safety, and they could gamble on a final roll of the dice.

Jaidon Anthony and Zian Flemming are the Clarets’ joint top scorers so far this season with five goals each, and Scott Parker would like to add more firepower.

Wilson has proven he is capable of scoring if he can stay fit for a substantial period, and fired home the winning goal as West Ham beat Spurs 2-1 at the weekend.

Burnley tipped to pursue Callum Wilson signing

Football Insider revealed on 6 January that Wilson has agreed to leave West Ham by terminating his contract early after just five months at the club.

The opportunity to land a proven Premier League goalscorer on a free transfer has placed a number of clubs on alert, and Burnley have been backed to make a move.

Callum Wilson will be an option for a number of clubs,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s a great asset to have as long as he’s fit, if he can stay fit he’s proven he can score goals, so clubs will be doing checks on his fitness.

“He went into West Ham when they didn’t have any strikers and he’s done a decent job, he looks like he can still perform at Premier League level.

“So if he’s going to be available on a free, that would be a great deal for somebody.

“I think Burnley could do with somebody like that, they’d take him tomorrow if he became available, he’s got the experience and record in the Premier League.

“They’re in need of a real goalscorer to add to their squad and the manager is keen to get some firepower up front because they’ve struggled for goals.

“If he could come in and add a few more goals, it could be so valuable when they’re fighting against relegation, so it’s definitely something that could work.

“They could do far worse than bringing in Callum Wilson on a free transfer, that’s for sure.”

Ipswich, Everton and Celtic want to sign Wilson

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Ipswich plan to offer Wilson a contract to lure him to Portman Road ahead of Premier League rivals.

The signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe had pushed the 33-year-old down the pecking order, and he is keen to find a new club as a result.

Celtic are also said to be exploring a deal for the striker, while Everton have registered their interest, and Saudi Arabian clubs are also keen to bring him in.

The former England striker wants and 18-month deal to give him greater security.

Everton would prefer a shorter agreement, while sources say Ipswich are more likely to bow to Wilson’s demands, and are trying to win the race by doing so.
