Burnley’s Zian Flemming reacts as Millwall announce terms agreed

Millwall have confirmed that captain Jake Cooper has penned a new contract.

Cooper has been linked away from Millwall for many years, with the centre-back proving to be a star at The Den.

With the Lions looking to finally secure Premier League promotion this season, they will be hoping to enjoy a successful January window.

While Millwall aren’t currently predicted to go up, they have started the year off in the right way as Cooper pens a two-and-a-half-year contract, much to the delight of Zian Flemming.

Cooper has been at Millwall since 2017, and has played over 400 appearances at the East London club.

As a result, he has seen many players come and go from The Den, including Flemming.

The Burnley striker played for Millwall between 2022 and 2025, netting 23 goals in 92 appearances for the Lions.

Since departing for the Clarets, he clearly still gets along with his former teammate.

When Millwall announced on Instagram on 2 January that Cooper had signed a contract until 2028, Flemming responded to the post by liking it.

What has Cooper said about the new Millwall deal?

Cooper is obviously delighted to have penned a new contract at Millwall.

While Cooper has perhaps been lucky this season not to have been sent off for Millwall, has continued to be a formidable presence at the back and will be vital to Alex Neil’s side if they are to push into the playoffs over the coming months.

As it stands, Millwall are seventh in the Championship, level on points with Preston in sixth, who have a superior goal difference.

They are also only four points off second, and will no doubt want to continue this form into the second half of the campaign.

In the meantime, Cooper will be celebrating his new deal and spoke to Millwall on 2 January to express his euphoria over the news.

He said: “Yeah, I’m buzzing. I was always looking to extend my time here at the club.

“I love being involved here, and as soon as the chairman and Steve made it clear that they wanted to keep me here beyond this season, I was delighted and just looked to get that done as soon as possible.

“The manager has had a great impact on me and made me want to be part of this club going forward.”
