Caicedo, Cunha react to Brighton star Joao Pedro after Chelsea transfer update

Moises Caicedo and Man United’s new signing Matheus Cunha have reacted to a post from Brighton forward Joao Pedro on social media.

The 23-year-old was signed in the summer of 2023 from Watford, and has taken no time at all to find his feet at the Amex stadium.

He has scored 30 goals in 70 appearances for the Seagulls, whilst also registering 10 assists during his time with the club.

Despite a slow finish to the season that was marred by injuries, suspension, and a training ground bust-up with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke, Pedro still finished as the club’s joint-highest goal-scorer in the league.

With a dearth of high-quality strikers on the market, Pedro seems likely to fetch a high price for his club this summer, should Brighton look to cash in.

No place for Joao Pedro in Brazil squad

In spite of his strong season in the Premier League, there was no place for the Seagulls star in Carlo Ancelotti’s first Brazil squad.

The Selecao are due to play Ecuador and Paraguay on 6 and 11 June in crucial World Cup qualifiers.

After missing out on making the squad, the Brighton forward took to Instagram to share some images of himself away from the pitch, and the post was liked by United’s new signing Cunha and Chelsea star Caicedo.

Liam Delap move complicates Joao Pedro move to Chelsea

Football Insider Verdict

Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider in May that Pedro had told those around him he wanted to join Chelsea this summer.

The Blues had long been expected to be in the market for more attacking players this summer to bolster their squad.

But Delap’s move to Chelsea may have complicated things for Pedro. With a new striker on the books, Maresca’s side may now be more hesitant about shelling out for a forward.

The Brazilian is just as adept at playing behind the striker, but given that the West London club already have Cole Palmer as a number 10, spending a huge fee on a second-choice option makes little sense.

Chelsea must be careful, though, as their hesitancy may see them miss out on the Brazilian entirely, with Newcastle now interested in Pedro.
