Caixihna takes left-field step in order to defend Rangers tradition

Rangers’ boss Pedro Caixinha has banned the squad from wearing green boots in order to protect the club’s culture.

The Light Blues’ boss has took steps to stop his players from wearing footwear that are in the colours of bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Caixihna claims that small details, like the boots, count in the long run and are important in order to defend the club’s history and traditions.

He said that his left-field step to abolish the colours of Celtic, despite his former club Santos Laguna’s kit resembling the Hoops, is something that he simply had to put his foot down on.

When asked about the green boots, Caixinha was quoted in the Daily Record saying: “It’s an internal issue. We don’t normally comment on what type of boots people wear.

“All clubs need to have their own culture. We have our culture, history and traditions and we just need to keep it and defend it.

“If that vision and mission reaches the standards we hope, you are looking to be present in Europe all the time.”

Rangers play in the second leg of the Europa League first round qualifiers against Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn on Tuesday night, and hope to make an impact in their first appearance in the competition in six years.

On Thursday during their first clash with the Luxembourg outfit, Caixihna was able to trial out his newest additions to the squad, after he made eight new sinings.

For Tuesday’s match the boss opted to axe new recruit Dalcio from the starting XI and instead he was sidelined for Daniel Candeias.
