Caixinha makes bold claim ahead of Rangers Premiership opener v Motherwell

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has made a bold statement ahead of the 2017/18 Premiership season, saying he believes the squad is now in the best shape since he joined and that ‘winning is the only option’.

He also said that he assessed the squad when he arrived and looked for players who could ‘control the game and the tempo of it’.

The 46-year-old was appointed as boss at the Ibrox on a three-year-deal in March this year and has already made his mark on the club.

After Rangers finished third in the league last season – 39 points below rivals Celtic – Caixinha threw himself head first into his first transfer window as boss of the Light Blues.

He came out on the other side with nine new recruits who have already made a positive impression, with impressive pre-season wins against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday.

Caixinha spoke on Thursday ahead of the club’s Premiership opener, on Sunday against Motherwell.

The boss will now focus on Rangers’ opening Premiership match against Motherwell on Sunday as his side head to Fir Park on Sunday in the hope of securing three points.

In other Rangers news, Hearts’ interim manager has suggested how much the Light Blues should spend to prise Jamie Walker away from Tynecastle.
