Caixinha: Rangers ever-present to be omitted from XI for clash v Partick

Kenny Miller will play no part in Rangers’ Scottish League Cup quarter-final clash against Partick Thistle on Tuesday night.

Manager Pedro Caixinha revealed at his media briefing on Monday that the veteran striker is to be given a “break” to switch off and recharge his batteries.

Caixinha went public with his decision to omit Miller, who has been an ever-present for the Scottish giants in the opening months of the campaign.

“Kenny Miller will be given a break,” said the Portugese, as quoted by the official Rangers Twitter account. “He will have a day off tomorrow to enjoy with the family. I want him to switch off from football.”

Miller, 37, has started all nine of Rangers’ fixtures this season, including their six Scottish Premiership matches.

Playing in a deep forward role behind main spearhead Alfredo Morelos, the former Scotland international has scored two goals and supplied three assists but he is yet to open his league account for the campaign.

He was given a new contract at the end of last season that runs until next summer after making it clear that he was not ready to hang up his boots and become a coach.
