Callum Wilson may not play for Newcastle United again this season after injury latest – pundit

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson may not play again this season.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 30-year-old’s recovery from injury.

Wilson has been sidelined since 27 December after injury his calf in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Newcastle Eddie Howe with his hand over his mouth

As quoted by The Northern Echo (22 March), Eddie Howe stressed the importance of being “very careful” with the centre-forward given the nature of his injury.

As revealed by Football Insider (15 March) that Wilson is confident of being in contention to return against Norwich City on 23 April.

However, Robinson believes Wilson may not be risked this season with survival all but secured.

“He was massively important to them before the January transfer window,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a big player for them and a huge source of their goals.

“They are safe now. It’s been an unbelievable turnaround since the January window.

“It would be good to have Wilson back fit before the end of the season but there is no need to rush him. They might not take the risk.

“They can take their time with him because there is strength in the squad. He does not need to play because they’re already safe in my opinion.”
