Calvin Bassey poor as Smith-Rowe dazzles – Fulham winners and losers from Man United draw

Fulham drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Sunday.

The West Londoners were eager to build on their 1-1 draw with Brighton in their opening top-flight game on 16 August.

However, Marco Silva’s men were once again denied claiming all three points, as Rodrigo Muniz’s own goal handed Manchester United the lead.

Emile-Smith Rowe was on hand as a second half substitute to score the equaliser and ensure that Fulham drew with Man United on 24 August.

But who starred for Silva’s side and who was underwhelming against Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils?

Emile Smith-Rowe

The Craven Cottage club appeared destined to lose their second Premier League game of the season at the hands of Man United.

However, less than two minutes after being subbed on, Smith-Rowe has on hand to ensure that Fulham avoided defeat to Amorim’s men.

The former Arsenal man could now be in line to start for the West London club in their Premier League clash with local rivals Chelsea on Saturday, 30 August.

Kenny Tete ensured that Man United’s left wingback Patrick Dorgu was unable to provide a major threat for Amorim’s side.

The 29-year-old was equally comfortable in possession, providing more danger down the right-hand side than colleague Timothy Castagne.

Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi enjoyed a largely successful Premier League season last term, notching nine goals and six assists in 38 top-flight appearances.

The Nigeria international’s assist against Man United is a promising sign that he could enjoy another strong campaign.

Calvin Bassey

Calvin Bassey had a poor day at the office, fouling Mason Mount as the Red Devils were awarded a penalty in West London.

The defender was fortunate that Bruno Fernandes missed from 12 yards after being bumped into by referee Chris Kavanagh.

Silva will need the centre-back to perform much better in their next Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

Rodrigo Muniz

Muniz was responsible for the fact that Fulham fell behind against Man United, as he scored an own goal when he attempted to stop Leny Yoro’s header getting the better of Bernd Leno.

The striker was also poor in the final third, failing to build on any momentum he gained from scoring against Brighton on the opening day.

The conventional fullback was selected on the wing against the Old Trafford club and failed to provide quality.

Castagne failed to provide Dorgu and Luke Shaw with problems to deal with and appears unlikely to start on the wing again soon, after being deservedly subbed off.
