Calvin Bassey reacts to Fulham message to Raul Jimenez as new striker targeted
Calvin Bassey has reacted to a message from Fulham to Raul Jimenez as the Whites target a new number nine in the transfer window.
Since Everton target Aleksandar Mitrovic departed the Cottagers to join Al-Hilal in 2023, the West London club have been in need of a reliable replacement.
Jimenez proved the most effective choice last season, scoring 12 goals for Marco Silva‘s side, but two goals in the Whites’ last 10 games from the Mexican played a part in the club falling short in their push for European qualification.
What’s more, the former Wolves striker is 34 years old and likely has just a season or two at most of playing at a Premier League level.
Fulham rejected a bid for Rodrigo Muniz from Leeds worth up to £32million [The Standard] and the Brazilian is expected to be given another chance to prove himself capable of being the starting number nine under Silva.
However, the former Middlesbrough loanee has struggled with consistency issues throughout his time at Craven Cottage, despite being a fan favourite.

Raul Jimenez fires Mexico to Gold Cup final meeting with USA
Whilst his goal-scoring exploits slowed down near the end of the season for Fulham, Jimenez remains a star for his national side, Mexico.
The 34-year-old scored in the Gold Cup semi-final win over Honduras, setting up a meeting with the USA.
In the previous meeting between the two North American rivals back in October 2024, Jimenez scored the opener in a 2-0 win.
Following the victory, Fulham shared an image of the striker in action for his nation, captioned: “Sending Mexico through to the Gold Cup Final.”
The post was liked by club teammate Bassey, showing his support for the striker.
Fulham search for new striker after Romulo bid rejected
Football Insider Verdict
The Athletic and David Ornstein revealed on 26 June that Fulham were pursuing a deal for Goztepe striker Romulo.
An offer of €16million (£13.8m) plus add-ons and a sell-on clause by the Premier League club was rejected, with the Turkish side holding out for more than €20m (£17.2m).
Fulham are not the only team to have registered their interest in Romulo, as the Brazilian striker has interest from RB Leipzig, Feyenoord, Fenerbahce and Zenit Saint Petersburg, with “multiple offers submitted.”
Whether the Goztepe striker makes the move to West London or not, the Cottagers’ fans can take comfort in the knowledge the club are in the market for a new striker.
Silva had interest from Tottenham, Al-Hilal, and Juventus at various points during the season, and the hope will be that Tony Khan is active and successful in his endeavours to provide the Portuguese manager with a squad capable of successfully competing for a place in Europe next season.
