Calvin Bassey sends ’10 more’ years plea to exit-linked Fulham star

Calvin Bassey has asked an exit-linked Fulham star to stay at the club for 10 more years amid contract discussions.

The Nigerian defender faced the formidable task of replacing club legend Tim Ream when he arrived in West London in 2023.

But in two seasons for the Cottagers, Bassey has established himself as a lovable character off the field and a formidable defender on it.

The ex-Rangers man featured in 35 Premier League games last term, partnering former Crystal Palace man Joachim Andersen for much of it.

The duo, alongside one-time Liverpool target Antonee Robinson and potentially Everton-bound Kenny Tete, formed one of Fulham’s best backlines since the early 2010s.

Calvin Bassey asks Tom Cairney to stay at Fulham for 10 more years

Fulham shared several images on social media, celebrating Tom Cairney’s 10 year anniversary at the club.

The Scottish midfielder joined from Blackburn Rovers in 2015 and has gone on to make 354 appearances for the West London club.

Bassey then shared the post with a message, asking for the club’s captain to stay for “10 more my boy”.

Cairney is currently entertaining a contract offer from Fulham, amidst interest from Championship club Wrexham.

Marco Silva regularly employed a tactic of bringing Cairney off the bench for the last five minutes of the game if Fulham were winning.

The Scottish midfielder has carved out a unique niche in the latter part of his career as an elite game manager, to borrow a very American phrase.

Cairney controls the tempo of play like few others, but he is not just limited to slowing things down.

Against Tottenham, the ex-Hull man spurred the Whites’ comeback against the North London club, slotting a tidy finish past Guglielmo Vicario.

Off the pitch, Cairney has proven himself to be a popular figure, not only with established teammates like Bassey but also young stars like Josh King, whom the 34-year-old has taken under his wing.
