Calvin Bassey swipes at Bruno Fernandes in message to the FA

Calvin Bassey had a message for the FA following Fulham’s dramatic FA Cup victory over Man United.

Fulham secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals after a tense penalty shootout win, beating Man United after the game ended 1-1 following extra time at Old Trafford on 2 March.

Marco Silva’s side took the lead just before half-time through an unlikely scorer in Bassey, only for Bruno Fernandes to level the game in the second half and force extra time. With neither side able to find a winner, the match went to penalties.

Bernd Leno sent a message to Fulham fans after he was the side’s hero on the night, after saving crucial spot-kicks from Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee to send the away side through.

Calvin Bassey questions FA Cup Man of the Match decision after Fulham’s victory

After the match, Bassey responded to the official Emirates FA Cup page on X, quoting their post of him with the comment: “No man of the match?” followed by a raised-eyebrow emoji.

Despite his commanding display against Manchester United, it was Fernandes who was awarded Player of the Match, leaving the defender questioning the decision.

Alex Iwobi sent a message to Bassey after the win, a game that marked the Nigerian’s first-ever FA Cup appearance. The defender has been a key figure for Silva’s side this season, featuring in 27 matches, scoring twice, and accumulating 2,384 minutes of playing time.

His frustration at missing out on the award is understandable, given his standout defensive performance. Bassey made 11 clearances and won seven ground duels, playing a vital role in the victory.

Fulham continue impressive form under Marco Silva

Fulham
Marco Silva has continued to impress with Fulham this season.

Fulham’s strong season under Silva shows no signs of slowing down. The club remains in the hunt for European football while also securing a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Currently sitting 9th in the Premier League on 42 points, they are just two points behind Newcastle in sixth and five points off the top four.

Silva had been linked with the Tottenham job earlier in the season when Ange Postecoglou was under pressure, but those rumours have since died down as Fulham continue their steady rise.

Their FA Cup journey will resume with a quarter-final clash against Crystal Palace, as both teams look to book a trip to Wembley and edge closer to silverware.
