Camavinga reacts to Konate’s ‘thank you’ to Liverpool fans amid exit rumours

Ibrahima Konate took to social media with a new message for the Liverpool supporters following the completion of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Frenchman was an integral part of Arne Slot‘s team as the Reds lifted the Premier League title by 10 points, creating a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the back.

Due to his performances, and indeed his current contract situation, Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Real Madrid are pushing to sign Konate following their move for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds will be desperate to avoid a repeat of Alexander-Arnold’s free transfer to Los Blancos, yet Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Liverpool are playing a dangerous game with the defender’s contract expiring next summer.

Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah are both unlikely to be at Anfield once the 2025/26 season kicks off, so tying Konate down to a new deal should be top of the list of priorities for the Merseysiders.

Ibrahima Konate addresses Liverpool fans in new message

Taking to Instagram (12 June), Konate said: “What a season! Thank you to all the fans for the love and support this year. You’ve been amazing from start to finish.

“It’s been a great season for me and for the club, so many special moments, and of course, winning our 20th Premier League title… Unforgettable!” with a trophy emoji.

He continued: “Now it’s time to rest, enjoy the holidays, and come back even stronger (and you, the fans, because we’ll need your energy and voice as well). Next season, we go again!”

Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Darwin Nunez, and Jordan Henderson all liked the post, but it was Eduardo Camavinga’s interaction that caught the most attention due to the Real Madrid links.

Arne Slot could be looking for new defender soon

Football Insider verdict

The Reds have created a resolute backline, with Konate and Van Dijk protecting Alisson in between the sticks, and that could be the set lineup for the foreseeable future, despite the latter duo’s ages.

While Giorgi Mamardashvili will be at Anfield next season, some fans have raised concerns over his abilities, while Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool could be open to offers for Quansah.

Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Kostas Tskimikas, and Andy Robertson have all been linked with exits, but Slot is only trying to adapt the squad to his playing style after such a long spell with Jurgen Klopp.

Out of the list above, Ian Darke, speaking to Liverpool News 247 (9 June), suggested that Robertson would not settle for a squad role rather than starting each week, which could play a role in his exit rumours.

The Dutchman’s side were knocked out of both the Champions League and FA Cup at early stages, but after lifting the Premier League title, supporters lined the streets of Liverpool to celebrate just a few weeks ago.

Those same supporters, while happy with the league title, will be expecting much more next season, and that will only be possible if more signings are added to Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.
