Cameron Carter-Vickers now facing extended spell on Celtic sidelines – pundit

Liam Scales can keep Cameron Carter-Vickers out of the Celtic starting XI.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said that if Scales can string together a good run of performances, it will be up to the returning players to force Scales out of the team.

The 25-year-old returned to the starting lineup last month for the first time since 2022 as a result of numerous injuries at centre-back.

Cameron Cater-Vickers and new arrival Maik Nawrocki are both sidelined with injuries and the Hoops lost Carl Starfelt in the summer window.

Scales was partnered with new arrival Gustaf Lagerbielke for last weekend’s Old Firm match and kept a clean sheet.

When asked if Scales has made a claim to be in the starting XI when everyone else is fit, Hutton told Football Insider:He has come in and done really well but I think if everyone is fully fit he won’t start.

That is not me getting at him that is just how it is at this moment in time.

Celtic

I think if he progresses as he is doing at this moment and keeps playing at a high level then I think he will continue to play. Then it will be up to the guys coming back from injury to force their way back in.

The shirt is in his hands at the moment. Can he play week in week out at a high level and keep these guys on the sidelines? The ball is in his court.”
