Cameron Carter-Vickers tipped for Celtic return after confirmed news – expert

Cameron Carter-Vickers could be ready to feature for Celtic in their season opener this weekend (5 August).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said that if Carter-Vickers is “anywhere near fit” he will want to play.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined since undergoing a knee operation in May but has been stepping up his return to the side in recent weeks.

The centre-back stayed at Lennoxtown whilst the rest of the squad travelled to Japan on their pre-season tour and was put through an intense week of training before rejoining his teammates last week.

The Hoops have already confirmed the signing of Polish defender Maik Nawrocki on a five-year deal.

When asked if Carter-Vickers will be ready to return to the side for the season opener against Ross County on Saturday, McAvennie told Football Insider:He has had a good rest and if he has done training and rehab properly then I do not think he will be too far away.

He will know himself where he is at. People will tell him he needs another couple of weeks but it is down to the player and if he feels he is ready.

It depends what they are doing in training and if he isn’t at risk of hurting himself again then the manager will put him in.

Over all the years I played I do not think I played alongside anyone who was fully fit, you just strap it up and get on with it. I would think Carter-Vickers is old and school and if he is anywhere near fit he will want to play.
