Campbell baffled by Tottenham 'madness' after latest on Nuno talks

Kevin Campbell has claimed Tottenham were ‘mad’ to sack Jose Mourinho as Nuno Espirito Santo edges closer to succeeding his countryman.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker is baffled as to why the club would sack a proven winner in Mourinho, 58, while no contingency plan was in place.

‘The Special One’ was sacked over over two months ago but Tottenham are still yet to appoint a replacement.

Football Insider revealed on 23rd June that Spurs were holding talks with Nuno and that personal terms had been agreed ahead of a potential move.

New director of football Fabio Paratici is leading the club’s pursuit of the 47-year-old having been a long-term admirer of his.

A compensation fee will not be required for Nuno following his departure from Wolves last month.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest developments, Campbell said:

“I think Nuno Espirito Santo is a capable manager, I really do.

“He is a good manager but the issue is, do the Spurs faithful think that? At the end of the day, you have got to keep the core of your support happy.

“They brought Mourinho in and then sacked him before a cup final. It is madness.

“All of a sudden you are swapping Mourinho for somebody who has won nothing in England. Let’s be right here, it is a tough sell for the fans.”
