Campbell: Two-times title winning Favre among flood of heavyweights who want Celtic job
Floods of managerial heavyweights are set to join Lucien Favre in throwing their hat into the ring for the Celtic job in the coming weeks.
That is according to ex-Arsenal striker and European football expert Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Daily Mail reported that the ex-Borussia Dortmund head coach is interested in the Parkhead role.
Favre, 63, has been out of work since being dismissed by Dortmund in December and has managed top-flight teams in Germany, France and his native Switzerland.
Among his managerial honours are two league titles in Switzerland with Zurich.
Celtic have been on the hunt for a new manager since Neil Lennon’s resignation in February left John Kennedy in temporary charge.
Campbell asserts that Favre is a solid candidate but one of a long list of esteemed names who would take the Celtic job in a heartbeat.
“He did pretty well at Dortmund,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“The Celtic job is a massive job. A lot of the top managers who are not in work at the moment see that as a fantastic opportunity to showcase what they can do.
“There will be a lot more managers of note that will be interested in that Celtic job, I can tell you.”
Football Insider revealed last week that Roy Keane was recently interviewed for the vacant managerial position at Celtic Park.
This site also revealed that Keane had lined-up ex-teammate Nicky Butt to potentially be his assistant after the 46-year-old quit his role at Man United.
In other news, pundit claims Celtic ruing “massive” missed opportunity to sign 28-goal Championship star.
