Campbell in awe of Bielsa ‘masterstroke’ after early Leeds team news pre-Southampton

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa after he granted Robin Koch and Mateusz Klich early leave.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed the decision “is a masterstroke” with just two games of the domestic season remaining.

As quoted by Leeds Live, Bielsa revealed in his press conference that Koch, 24, and Klich, 30, will miss tonight’s trip to Southampton and Sunday’s visit of West Brom.

Koch missed the 4-0 win over Burnley with a minor knock to his hip and while he could play a part in the remaining fixtures he has been given extra time to recover ahead of potentially being picked to represent Germany at the Euros.

Klich was confirmed in Poland’s squad for the Euros last week and while he is not carrying an injury, Bielsa has decided to give him an extended break.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the decision, Campbell said: “That makes a lot of sense to me.

“I think that is a masterstroke from Bielsa. He knows what both of those players can do.

“There might be other ones who he wants to have a look at, youngsters that he wants to push into the first team squad. If he does that he can see how other players react to being in the first team squad without upsetting anyone.

“Listen, let those guys go and prepare for the Euros. It is not a problem because the regime at Leeds is tough and I think a little break will benefit them.

“At this stage of the season players are usually carrying niggles so this will allow them to get themselves right for the Euros. They will appreciate that.”

In other news, another Leeds regular starter has snubbed a long-term contract offer in a big blow.
