Campbell issues ‘incredible’ Bielsa verdict after update on Leeds future

Marcelo Bielsa’s position at Leeds United is safe so long as he keeps the fans onside, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested a lack of investment and injuries are to blame for the club’s struggles.

Leeds United have won just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures and have conceded 14 goals in their last three games.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (21 December) that the club will consider replacing Bielsa if they get sucked further into a relegation battle.

It is understood that senior figures at Elland Road believe this season will be Bielsa’s last in Yorkshire.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Campbell said: “I don’t think he is under severe pressure.

“He is under pressure, make no mistake about it but that is because of the injuries. The club know that. They are missing their best players.

“What Bielsa has done for Leeds United football club is incredible. The fans know that and you could see that with the way the crowd reacted against Arsenal. They were right behind them.

“The fans understand that they were shorthanded. They understand that they are waiting for key players to get fit.

“I think Bielsa gets the benefit of the doubt in this scenario. There is always pressure at a club like Leeds but as long as the fans are with him he’ll be alright.

“The budget they are working with isn’t the biggest. Bielsa has had to work with young players.”
