Campbell makes ‘massive’ January transfer claim as fears rise over nine Rangers stars

Kevin Campbell has suggested nine Rangers stars could be “distracted” as their Ibrox contracts enter their final months.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to pick the team “wisely” in the coming months.

Nine Rangers stars are out of contract at the end of this season – including first-choice centre-back pairing Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson.

Each of the nine first-teamers can discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from Saturday (1 January).

When asked what effect the contract situation could have at Ibrox, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It could be a real distraction for Rangers, 100%, it’s a massive month.

“Some of those players will not be fully concentrated on playing for Rangers.

“However, I think the manager and the football club will be choosing the teams wisely and picking players who are committed to the cause. They’ve still got that winning mentality at the club.

“There are still trophies to be won, and even though there will be futures and contracts to sort out – in the most part, the players will be focused on that league title and getting the job done.”

Rangers have suffered no ill effects from the mid-season departure of former boss Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox club are sitting pretty atop the Scottish Premiership, leading Old Firm rivals Celtic by six points.

Rangers have also advanced to the knockout stage of the Europa League under Van Bronckhorst.

The Dutchman is yet to suffer defeat at the helm of the Glasgow giants.
