Campbell salutes West Ham owner Sullivan after ExWHUemployee update
West Ham owner David Sullivan is right to hand transfer control over to Rob Newman, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said having a strong hand in the transfer market opens Sullivan up to criticism from supporters.
This site revealed on July 13th that Newman had agreed to become West Ham’s new head of recruitment after resigning from his post at Man City.

However, the Hammers have been made to wait for the 57-year-old as he works his notice period at the Premier League champions.
Irons insider ExWHUemployee today confirmed Sullivan would no longer be overseeing transfers.
He also said Newman could first be tasked with finding a striker who could provide backup for Michail Antonio.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the developments, Campbell said:
“I’m not surprised Sullivan likes to have a hand in transfers, it’s his money!
“But it’s the right move to bring someone in. It is the evolution of football clubs at the top level these days.

“Owners doing the deals is OK but you do not want your name on the signings because fans will hold stuff like that against you. The owners should delegate the football side of things to experts in the field.
“Let everyone else get on with it and enjoy it. David Sullivan and David Gold need to sit back and enjoy what’s going on at West Ham because David Moyes has put together a really exciting squad and they are winning games. The owners need to enjoy it, not be worrying about transfers. They’re taking the right step.”
