Campbell stunned by ‘crazy’ Arsenal bid for Neves

Kevin Campbell has claimed Arsenal would be getting a “great price” if they signed Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves for £40million this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said it is “crazy” to think the 24-year-old could leave Molineux as he is a “top midfielder at a good age.”

According to the Telegraph (7 June), Arsenal are poised to make an opening offer for the Portugal international as they look to replace AS Roma-bound Granit Xhaka.

Wolves are said to want £40million for the centre-midfielder they paid £15.8million for in July 2017.

Neves made 40 appearances across all competitions last season and contributed five goals and two assists.

He has two years remaining on his contract with the Midlands club.

Campbell is a big fan of the ex-Porto playmaker and claimed he possesses a “rare talent”.

“What a player he is,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“This is the crazy thing, he was never on my radar because as far as I am concerned Wolves would never sell him.

“Neves is a brilliant midfielder at a good age. He can hit them from outside the box as well. That is a rare talent. He is a fine player and at 24 he still has time to develop.

“There will be some big change at Wolves this summer and if Arsenal can sneak in a deal for Neves that would be great. I think £40million is a great price for him to be honest.”
