Campbell thrilled by update on West Brom signing Chalobah from Chelsea

Kevin Campbell has claimed Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah would be a “smart signing” for West Brom given his Championship experience.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Albion and Arsenal striker claimed the 22-year-old will be seeking an exit route from Stamford Bridge to play regular football next season.

Chalobah is expected to leave Chelsea this summer following three consecutive seasons out on loan.

As revealed by Football Insider (July 5th), the Baggies are readying a bid for the centre-midfielder as they look to win the race for his signature.

The England Under-21 international has two years remaining on his contract in west London, having renewed terms last August.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Chalobah’s potential move, Campbell said:

“I think he’d be good signing for West Brom.

“Let’s be honest, Trevor doesn’t want to come back to Chelsea and not be playing games. He would rather go out on loan and play football.

“He did a great job at FC Lorient last season and now perhaps he wants a different challenge.

“Remember he has played in the Championship before so he knows what it’s all about. I think he would be a smart signing.”

West Brom are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements in this window.

Valerien Ismael’s squad is light in the centre of the pitch after 2020-21 loan stars Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles returned to their parent clubs.

In other news, Celtic open talks to sign 23-year-old who’s just quit West Brom.
