Leicester 1.87 v Watford 4.70; The Draw 3.90
Saturday, 15:00
Leicester City
It has been a superb start to the season for Claudio Ranieri’s side as they continue to surprise near the top of the Premier League. The Foxes were widely expected to struggle during this campaign with plenty questioning the appointment of the zany Italian. But Ranieri’s team have been as entertaining on the pitch as his unique style of management off the field.
Leicester have been the crowd pleasers after scoring in every match this season. City have also been involved in the most goals in the division with 42 in their games so their attacking quality and porous defence has won the neutrals’ support up and down the country.
The team have built on the momentum they gained from their great escape under Nigel Pearson last season. An opening 4-2 win over Sunderland set the tone for the campaign and Arsenal remain the only side to defeat them this season. The Foxes have shown remarkable powers of recovery having won ten points from losing positions which is more than any other side in the league.
Watford
The Hornets have been one of the other major success stories with the newly-promoted side already well on their way towards safety after just a quarter of the season. Watford were favourites for the drop heading into the season but have made a mockery of their odds with an extremely impressive first three months.
Watford immediately caught the eye after a 2-2 draw at Everton in their opening match but no goals in the next three league games raised slight concern. However Quique Sanchez Flores has built his team’s success on their solidity at the back. Five clean sheets from 11 games indicates the defensive strength which has helped take them nine points clear of the bottom three.
Their form on the road has been particularly encouraging with Manchester City the only side to beat them in the league. Watford won at Stoke in their last away match and backed this up with a dominant home victory over West Ham United at Vicarage Road.
Match Odds
It is no surprise Leicester are the 1.87 favourites for this contest. The Foxes have been near the top of the table all season and have won six of their 11 matches this season.
Whether you want to back them at odds on though is up for debate particularly against opponents that have upset the odds several times already. If you do like their chances, one bet which may be worth consideration is Leicester to win by one goal at 3.70 because five of their six victories have been by this margin.
Watford are priced up at 4.70 and that may appeal to some following the Hornets’ recent form. However the fact Leicester have lost just once again has to be taken into consideration so this bet is swerved. But the visitors are 2.12 to avoid defeat and this was nearly put forward as a recommended bet.
The draw is available at 3.90 but this result has been quite rare for both sides lately. Watford have drawn just once since August while Leicester’s only draw at the King Power Stadium came three months ago.
To Score
As you can see the match outcome does not fill me with great confidence. But one area of the game which looks much more straight forward is the goalscoring market with the teams possessing the top goalscorers in the competition.
This season Jamie Vardy has been playing like a man possessed. The speedy striker has scored in eight consecutive Premier League games having notched 10 goals during this phenomenal run. It may only be a working man’s price now and it won’t win any prizes for originality but backing Vardy to net can still reap rewards this weekend.
Vardy is not the only prolific forward on show though as Odion Ighalo has taken the top flight by storm in his first year in the Premier League. Ighalo netted 20 goals last season which helped fire Watford to promotion and he has carried the form into this campaign. A brace against the Hammers took his tally to seven with four coming in away matches.
Ighalo is generously priced at 4.30 and well worth backing as he should get plenty of chances to score against a leaky City defence. The hosts have kept just one clean sheet all season but are the only team in the league to score in every match. It looks very hard for Watford to keep them at bay but the visitors are fancied to find the net and both teams to score is a confident bet whenever Leicester are involved.
