Caoimhin Kelleher ‘could be looking’ for Liverpool exit amid ‘massive’ verdict – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Caoimhin Kelleher “could well be looking” to leave Liverpool after his breakthrough.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old will want to play “week-in, week-out”.
Kelleher made himself the hero by scoring his shoot-out penalty as Liverpool lifted the League Cup after a 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday (27 February).
He was then axed for Wednesday’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Norwich City as Alisson was restored to the starting XI despite Jurgen Klopp fielding a weakened team that had 10 changes from Sunday.
Kelleher, who has made eight appearances this term, made four saves during the Wembley triumph.
The Republic of Ireland shot-stopper is contracted until 2026 after signing a fresh Liverpool extension in June 2021.
Hutton claimed the 23-year-old has “proven to everybody what he’s capable of”.
“I think being first-choice will be in the back of his mind,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“Every footballer obviously wants to play football, and Kelleher will be no different.
“He’s proven to everybody what he’s capable of, he was brilliant during the final and showed real composure to take that penalty.
“Jurgen Klopp trusts him, which shows how involved he is in that Liverpool team. But the bigger picture is that he will want to play week-in, week-out.
“Alisson is a brilliant goalkeeper and he is deservedly number one, so it’s going to be difficult for him to do that at Liverpool.
“He could well be looking elsewhere but it’s just down to him and where he sees his future.”

Kelleher has made 17 Liverpool appearances since making his debut in 2019.
As quoted by the Independent (27 February), manager Klopp claimed the youngster is “the best number two” in world football.
