Caoimhin Kelleher torn to shreds over incident vs Arsenal: ‘Let’s all laugh at Brentford’
Brentford were unable to breach Arsenal’s goal on 3 December with fans alarmed by Caoimhin Kelleher’s involvement in conceding the two goals.
Arsenal prevailed 2-0 victors over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium, extending their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 18 matches.
Mikel Arteta‘s night was perhaps made easier by seeing Aston Villa target Igor Thiago on the bench for the Bees, as they kept yet another clean sheet.
Keith Andrews’ side fought valiantly, although supporters from Brentford, Arsenal and Liverpool were alarmed by Kelleher’s inability to keep out the second goal from Bukayo Saka.
Liverpool supporters in hysterics over Caoimhin Kelleher’s display as Brentford suffer
Kelleher left Liverpool to join Brentford over the summer after spending many seasons as the back-up option at Anfield.
Barring the tough test against the Gunners, the Irishman has been one of the Bees’ outstanding performers this season.
However, the 27-year-old came under intense scrutiny for his handling of Saka’ strike in stoppage time at the end of the match.
The Englishman took aim at the Brentford goal which was parried up into the air by Kelleher, eventually bouncing into the back of the net.
Despite the close range, on closer inspection, the Reds academy graduate should’ve done better to block the shot as Nathan Collins was powerless to stop his teammate’s error that led to the goal.
Having sold the Ireland international, Liverpool fans were grateful for offloading him, with one supporter saying: “Kelleher is basically a hole in the goal.”
Elated with their victory, Arsenal fans also joined in on berating the goalkeeper, with one stating: “Kelleher couldn’t deny his [Saka’s] goal, let’s all laugh at Brentford.”
