Cardoso: This Rangers teammate is one of the world’s best in his position

Rangers summer signing Fabio Cardoso has heaped huge praise on fellow teammate Bruno Alves and claimed “it is a dream come true to play with him”.

Alves, 35, secured a permanent deal to the Ibrox club on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

The defender has become an integral part of the first-team squad and he has featured in nine matches in all competitions, keeping a total of three clean sheets in the process.

The Portugal international notched up his first goal for his new club in the 6-0 home victory over Dunfermline in a League Cup in August.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, new recruit Cardoso revealed that he is enjoying sharing a dressing room with the experienced defender.

“Bruno is one of the best centre backs from Portugal and in the world so it’s great to play with him,” he said.

“Having him back in the team is very important because he brings a lot of experience to us.

“He brings all the players into the game so he’s important. I watched him play for a lot of years back home and he was the first centre back to win the Player of the Year.

“It is a dream come true to play with him.

“I am learning so much from him, he is always talking to me and telling me what to do better.”

Alves has only missed two league matches this season and his absence was there for all to see when Rangers struggled to keep out Celtic in the Old Firm Derby defeat last month.

Cardoso and Alves have been the preferred central defensive partnership for Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha so far this season.

Both men played the full 90 minutes in the Rangers 3-0 league win away at St Johnstone on Friday night.

The two defenders will look to feature once more when Rangers face Motherwell in the League Cup semi-final at Ibrox next week.

In other Rangers news, a £7.5million midfielder is firmly in the running to be the club’s next signing.
