Carl Starfelt faces extended spell out of Celtic XI after Saturday development – expert
Frank McAvennie has claimed Moritz Jenz could get “a run” in the Celtic starting XI alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker is “optimistic” about the centre-back, who has “looked the part” despite it being so early in the season.
Jenz, 23, scored in the Bhoys’ 3-1 victory over Ross County on Saturday (6 August).
Jenz was in the starting line-up for the Parkhead club and played the full 90 minutes of the game.
As revealed by WhoScored (6 August), the centre-half completed 85 per cent of his attempted passes and won three aerial battles during the game.
Starfelt returned to the matchday squad for the Scottish Premiership clash but was an unused substitute.
When asked by Football Insider if he thought Carl Starfelt will struggle to get back into the starting XI, McAvennie said: “I think we might see Jenz getting a run with [Cameron] Carter-Vickers.
“He looked comfortable.
“[Stephen] Welsh played the first game, the manager knows what Welsh can do. He knows what Starfelt can do. They’re going to get plenty of games, even Welsh.

“Jenz looks the part but it’s early doors. I’m slightly optimistic but it’s early doors.
“He’s got competition which, when you’ve got competition that brings out the best in players. If nobody’s challenging you, you don’t mean to but you don’t put everything in. So when there’s competition it’s great for the team and they’ve looked really sharp so far.“
