Carter-Vickers cited amid Celtic dressing room whispers about Ange Postecoglou

Frank McAvennie has likened Ange Postecoglou to former Celtic boss Jock Stein.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that although Postecoglou rarely speaks to his players, he is positive that his door is always open.

As quoted by the Daily Record (8 March), midfielder Matt O’Riley admitted the players rarely speak to the Australian and don’t see that much of him.

O’Riley suggested the manager detaches himself from the players so he can pick his starting XI without too much emotion involved.

The 22-year-old said that when players do hear from the boss they are “grateful” that he actually speaks to them.

McAvennie is impressed by Postecoglou’s approach.

I think it is very much in the method of Jock Stein and to a certain degree Billy McNeil was like that,” he told Football Insider.

I do not think Ange has got a problem with people talking to him. I think his door would be open for anyone to talk to him.

As we saw at the weekend with [Cameron] Carter-Vickers he has got a sense of humour. The manager has so much authority and gets so much respect. The fans have respected him because he gets the club and he knew everything about it.

I can understand him being like that but that is what John Kennedy and Harry Kewell are there for. I am sure the players will talk to him at some point. I am almost positive strong characters like Carter-Vickers will go and have a chat to him.
