Celtic acting instantly to sign Edouard replacement after major Henry update - pundit

Noel Whelan insists Celtic must have a replacement for Odsonne Edouard ready to go after an update on Thomas Henry.

The former Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest transfer updates out of Parkhead.

On 14th August, Football Insider revealed Henry has his heart set on joining Celtic in a major blow to Rangers and Gent.

The three clubs are locked in a battle to sign Leuven striker Henry, 26, this month as they look to recruit a prolific goalscorer.

Now his UK representative Paul Tait has told Football Insider that Henry’s “preference is to join Celtic if they can agree a fee with Leuven”.

This comes after this site broke the news last Friday evening that Gent have had a £4.5million bid accepted by Belgian rivals Leuven for the front man.

Whelan insists Celtic need a new striker ready to go if Edouard departs the club.

“Celtic need to sell Edouard first,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“It could be a case of there’s something ready to go but Edouard needs to go.

“If he’s leaving, a replacement needs to come in very quickly, I don’t think Celtic will wait around.

“If things are getting hot between Edouard and whoever, they need to have someone ready to come in.

“All the talks done, fees taken care of so someone like Henry, he just needs a medical and to sign the contract.

“Celtic know how much Edouard means to them, they have been doing their groundwork to replace him.

“They can’t wait around like they did with a manager.”

Edouard has been heavily linked with a move away from Celtic this summer.

The striker is out of contract next summer.
