Celtic and Rangers ‘asking for trouble’ after ‘wrong’ VAR development – pundit
Celtic and Rangers are “asking for trouble” with VAR set to be introduced in the Scottish Premiership.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the implementation of the technology.
As per Sky Sports (19 April), 41 of 42 SPFL clubs voted to introduce the technology – which is expected to cost £1.2million per season.
However, VAR will only be introduced halfway through the season, while there is a break for the 2022 World Cup.
Kenny insists the technology should only be introduced at the start of a season.
“They are asking for trouble with this,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It should start at the start of next season or the start of the season after, you can’t start it halfway through a season.
“There will be decisions they get wrong in the first half of the season which could cost teams, then in the second half of the season, you get a different result.
“That could decide relegation or whoever wins the league. It’s wrong, I don’t think it’s right at all.
“It will lead to so many debates and what-ifs. It needs to come in at the start of a season.”

The news comes after a polarising refereeing performance from Bobby Madden during Rangers’ cup win at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Speaking during commentary on Premier Sports, Celtic legend Chris Sutton claimed Madden “embarrassed himself” with his “ridiculous” performance.
In other news, Daizen Maeda among three Celtic stars slammed by pundit as ‘huge’ claim issued post-Rangers.
